International Masterclasses 2019, at EKFE Khanion

Modern Physics at Ηigh School


Given the weaknesses and shortcomings of school curricula and the general problems of science teaching (workshops, cut-out from modern reality, examining system requirements, etc.), we try to avoid stereotypes and we try to open cognitive windows to the heart of science.

Thus, on Saturday, March 16, 2019, we organize, for the first time at EKFE Khanion, Master Classes of Elementary Particles for High School Students.  In collaboration with PANEKFE (Pan - Hellenic Union of EKFE ) , the HELLENIC EDUCATION GROUP part of it INTERNATIONAL PARTICLE PHYSICS OUTREACH GROUP (IPPOG) and EKEFE Demokritos

  • In the first part of this activity, students of the 2nd and 3rd grade of High School attend lectures on High Energy Physics, elementary particles and modern discoveries.
  • In the second part they take part in a laboratory exercise where they analyze data from the CMS experimenters at CERN and are looking for "exotic" particles.
  • In the third part of the activity they take part in a teleconference with students from other (European) schools and discuss with researchers

Each school unit can participate at most with four students and up to a total of 40 participants. If there is an interest in a high school and there are vacancies after the completion of the applications, there will be relevant information.
